Trident University is a previous branch grounds of Touro College, which was established in 1970 in New York City. In October 2007, Trident turned into a stand-alone foundation and was bought by Summit Partners, a private-value firm in Palo Alto, California, and Boston, Massachusetts. In the wake of obtaining the college, Summit Partners rearranged TUI as a revenue driven establishment and changed the name to Trident University International.
